worst. idea. ever.

video game movies have never, in the history of film, been good.  max payne has the potential of not suckatude.  but a game that cinematic lends itself to the movie format.  however, the same could be said about the resident evil series and we all know how well that panned out.  the point of all of this rambling is the the total wtf-iness of the following news regarding the movie adaptation of the sims, care of moviesonline.ca

“The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid of a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that.

But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world.

So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world. It’s wish fulfillment, and obviously it turns against them.”

first, that’s an actual quote from the producer.  i feel like it was written in crayons, you know, like this:

second, wow.  on the top three list of worst games to turn into movies, i’ve got the sims at number one, followed by guitar hero at number two (brett ratner already wants in if that tells you anything), and tetris at number three.  actually, i take that back.  tetris, in the hands of the right director, say jerry bruckheimer or micheal bay, could be really good.

jk rofl bbq.

a sims game is retarded. the entire novelty of it is the mundane participation (as opposed to other games, which may rely on fantasy roles or challenges of spatial reasoning).

as for a tetris movie, i’d like to see michel gondry take a stab at it. my version would involve people dressed up in giant tetris shapes. i suspect this is why i’m not a film director.

Yeah, Max Payne does have potential but I’m sure it will still sucketh. Here’s the only 2 video games that could make amazing movies. Not just decent or good, I mean amazing. Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7.

i agree on both of those, m&m. as a lifelong metal gear fan complete with tattoo, i’m excited about the rumored prospect of a big screen adaptation. kojima better direct though.
