[...] wow. wasn’t i just talking about how awesome grand rapids is becoming and all the cool events we’ve got coming up? and there’s even more incredible stuff coming up now! it’s just frustrating when i feel like we’re really making progress as a city and then this shit happens. i don’t even REALLY blame calvin for this one either. they’ve always counter-intuitively booked cool bands. i’m sure it never even crossed the booking guy’s mind that people would be upset about this. never underestimate the christian right in grand rapids. right, founders?
Here is the response I got from Mike Stevens of Founders about this:

Founders is merely supplying the venue for the Local Threads Fashion Show, a show that showcases local artists and their works. Supporting our local community of artists is something Founders has done for years and will continue to do in the future. We did not choose the charity to support for this event, the artist group did. Once we found out about which charity was chosen, I had to step in. At Founders, we have a strict policy in regards to supporting any charity and or political affiliation. Our policy is to remain neutral and not put ourselves into any moral bias situation at all. It simply isn't worth it for us. This is why we had to step in and choose to support the very worthy cause, Kids Food Basket. In fact, as a result of this unforeseen incident we will no longer be allowing any outside charity events to take place at our facility without our 100% voice in where the proceeds are going. Our goal is simple, make the best beer we can and focus on that and that only.
