Tyler Bennett (AKA Ty Beat) makes sweet tracks and drums live. I shot this last week at a benefit show he put on at Billy’s to fight human trafficking.

Man, things are kinda messed up right now. Tsunami’s be trashing the Pacific. Wisconsin is setting back workers rights a hundred years. The State Republicans are trying to end democracy in Michigan. And there’s a group of terrorists running around Grand Rapids.
But man oh man, I am STOKED for Super 8. This shit looks so good. June can’t get here soon enough.

A few days ago, a condo in the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids burned down. Today, a group calling itself The Old Neighbors have claimed responsibility for the arson via a threatening letter to residents of the area. To those misguided fools I want to say this:
We will not be threatened by thugs. This fine city belongs to all of us. We’re not leaving, regardless of your childish attempts to frighten hardworking people. We will find you and bring you to justice. That is a promise.
Also, learn how to write. What the hell is “Our demands are not implausible” supposed to mean? I’m not even sure I buy that you Neanderthals have the mental capacity to burn down a building without catching your Hot Topic anarchy shirts on fire, let alone compose a coherent sentence.
Good luck with your little crusade, you fucking cowards.

Holly’s Back Door has exclusively rolling office chair seating, which makes you feel like you’re in an executive lounge. In reality, you’re in a bar attached to a moderately-priced hotel on 28th street that has some really nice Shining-esque hallways.
Music: “Anywhere with You” by Saves the Day.
Technical stuff: most of this footage is from Trevor‘s Nikon D90 (not sure what lens) as I didn’t do much shooting that night. See if you can tell which is which. Hint: the D90 seems much more prone to rolling shutter issues than the Canon 60D.

#offthegrid is when we journey to foreign bars on monday nights. this was my first time and my first time out with my new canon 60d. it was also jorel’s birthday.
music: “last night in town” by lucero.
technical stuff (for those interested): shot on a canon 60d with a canon 50mm f/1.8 II wide open, iso 1600-3200 for the indoor stuff, lower outside. shutter speed at 1/50. sound recorded with a rode videomic. edited in final cut pro, no color correction.

as you may have heard, the christmas day vandals hit brick road pizza co. and the electric cheetah last night. i won’t go into how stupid and misguided these individuals are here (they are both very stupid and misguided) as others have already done a better job of covering that ground for me. instead, i’d like to suggest we all grab dinner at both LOCALLY OWNED businesses tonight to show our support and help them recoup the damages from this senseless and cowardly “protest.” i’ll be swinging by brick road co around 8 pm if you’d like to join me. and if you can’t make it tonight, make it a point to stop in some time this week. here’s the facebook event if you’re so inclined.

it’s kind of mind-blowing how well this works. also, can i just say for a second that vimeo is great. it’s all around just a great site with a great and supportive community and no awful commentors like youtube. keep it being great, vimeo.
