a while back i posted about my excitement for gran torino, the new clint eastwood vehicle (i should be shot for that pun). turns out, the movie is terrible. like god awful bad. the script was all around poorly written, the performances from everyone are amateur at best and laughable at worst, and eastwood, christ, eastwood. man oh man. he just growls the whole movie and whips out pretty much every racial epithet for asians i’ve ever heard, including some i hadn’t. do not, i repeat, do not waste your time with this movie.

earlier this week i rewatched both troll 2 and the room with the dudes ahoy. gran torino was a fitting addition to the trilogy of shit.

wait, is mark johnny’s best friend?

last night, a night i will always remember, i witnessed the epic fail that is the room. it is hands down, unequivically, the single worst movie ever made. if you’ve seen the mst3k classic manos: the hands of fate, then you have a vague idea of the neighborhood we’re in. the room goes beyond manos in it’s terrible-ness.

and i loved every second of it.

my favorite scene has the male cast all in tuxedoes for some reason. my first thought was “i guess tommy and lisa’s wedding is today.” then they go outside and play football. then there’s a shot of some park in san francisco and we’re on the next scene, which is not a wedding. it’s never mentioned again and i kept thinking “wait, why was everyone in tuxes?”

i could go on for days about how amazingly bad this “film” is, but i could never really do it justice. this should be required viewing for all filmstudents and wannabe directors. according to tommy wiseau (writer/director/star/producer/creepy wax manaquin), this thing cost $6 million to make. i don’t even know how that’s possible.

someone, including mark, mentions that mark is johnny’s best friend

i just ordered this off amazon:

i’m not usually one to enjoy things “ironically,” hence the title of this blog, but damn i’m excited for this movie. taken from one of the amazon reviews:

It’s not just the dreadful acting or the sub-normal screenplay or the bewildering direction or the musical score so soaked in melodrama that you will throw up on yourself or the lunatic-making cinematography; no, there is something so magically wrong with this movie that it can only be the product of divine intervention. If you took the greatest filmmakers in history and gave them all the task of purposefully creating a film as spectacularly horrible as this not one of them, with all their knowledge and skill, could make anything that could even be considered as a contender. Not one line or scene would rival any moment in The Room.

count me in. i will pre-screen it and maybe have a resurrected bad movie night sometime soon if it’s as good/bad as i hope.
